What is USPS Standard 4C?

Standard 4C, which now applies to Wall-Mounted Centralized Mail Receptacles, replaces the previous Standard 4B for Receptacles/Apartment House/Mail.

The new standard creates a new form factor and increases the minimum size requirement to 12" wide by 15" deep by 3" high and completely eliminates the vertical form factor (5"W x 6"D x 15"H). Standard 4C also requires one parcel locker per ten tenant compartments. Security features and lock design requirements are more stringent with new Std-4C, which also includes mandatory security testing done by the USPS.

The final rule of Standard 4C was effective as of October 4, 2004. As of October 5, 2006, all receptacles installed in any building with a permit issued on or after that date must be Standard 4C compliant.
